MCA (Master of Computer Application) program is being introduced by the Govt.Post Graduate College Dharamsala in the school of computer science (SCS) which is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University Shimla from the current session 2012-13. The basic objective of this course is to impart training and developing computer skills to meet the increasing demands of middle and top level technical positions in growing technological business world.


BASIS OF ADMISSION:-


The admission to the MCA course will be on the basis of Merit of the Entrance Test conducted by HP University, Shimla on 28-05-2012. The schedule for interview/counseling for the MCA course admission will be held in the Department of Computer Science, HP University, Shimla-5 on 16-07-2012 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m.


Note: - Only those candidates, who secured atleast 46 marks or above in the entrance test conducted by HP University  Shimla are eligible for the admission and counseling for MCA course.

 

RESERVATION FOR MCA

 a) Subsidized Seats

  • 50% seats shall be reserved for the graduates of Himachal Pradesh University or H.P.Krishi Vishvavidyalaya or Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture andForestry and the remaining 50% seats, shall be filled from the open quota, in which the graduates of this University shall also be eligible to compete through competitive test.
  • 15% and 7.5% of the seats shall be reserved for bonafide Himachali Scheduled  Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates respectively who have passed the qualifying examination from any University established by law in India which is equivalent to the qualifying examination of H.P. University.
  • One supernumerary seat shall be reserved for Himachali bonafide only child who is a girl. In this respect, an affidavit issued by a competent authority shall have to be submitted.

 b) Non-Subsidized  seats:

 

 Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla

  • The eligibility for admission to the Courses against these seats will be the same as provided for other candidates. 
  • The admission to these seats will be made on the merit of marks obtained in the Entrance Test.
  • The non-subsidized seats will be filled with 75% seats being reserved for graduates of universities located in Himachal Pradesh and 25% seats being open for graduates of any University including universities of Himachal Pradesh.
  • In case seats in the category of graduates of university of Himachal Pradesh remain unfilled, these may be filled out of the applicants belonging to the other category.
  • If any non-subsidized & supernumerary seat remains unfilled, it will lapse and will not be merged with the subsidized seats.

2.3.4 FEES TO BE PAID

 2.3.4.1 Subsidized and Non-Subsidized (Both) Seats:

 As per University rules, a university fee amounting to a total of Rs.1,500/- approximately per semester (subject to change from time to time as per university rules) is to be deposited at the university fee counter at the time of seeking admission and subsequently at the time of seeking admission for continuation in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th semesters. In addition an Equipment Fees of Rs.3,000/- (Rupees three thousand only) per annum is to be deposited Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla by the candidates at the time of admission & subsequently at the time of seeking admission for continuation in 3rd & 5th semester in the Department in the form of a demand draft in favour of Chairman, Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla.

2.3.4.2 Non-Subsidized Seats Only:

In addition to the fees mentioned in the previous section, a candidates admitted under Non-Subsidized category shall also have to pay a consolidated fee of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees  fifty thousand only) per annum. This fee shall be deposited in the Department of Computer Science in the form of demand draft in favour of Chairman, Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla - 171005. These dues have to be deposited at the time of admission to the 1st, 3rd & 5th Semesters. This fee shall not cover any boarding, lodging, medical, travel and other personal expenses.

 FEE ONCE DEPOSITED SHALL NOT BE REFUNDED IN ANY CASE.

 2.3.5 COUNSELING

The counseling shall be held in the H.P. University campus for admission to the MCA course2012. The candidates are required to check the website of the Department (www.hpucs.ac.in) or http://hpuniv.nic.in for the results, merit list and counseling schedules. No separate result cards and intimation regarding counseling shall be sent to the candidates. The counseling shall be held strictly as per the duly published counseling schedule posted on the website. The candidate has to attend the counseling in person along with all the original testimonials such as D.O.B. proof, 10+2, graduation, bonafide resident, proof of only child who is a girl, proof of category etc.

 2.3.5.1 Resolving a Tie:

The following Formulae shall be adopted to resolve a tie for Admission:

 2.3.6 SCHEME OF EXAMINATION IN MCA

English shall be the medium of instruction and examination. The pass marks shall be 40% in each written paper and in the internal assessment separately, and 40% in viva-voce, project work and semester course and 50% in the aggregate subject to the conditions that aggregate shall be determined at the end of the examination. Other rules shall be as per the rules of the university.

 2.3.6.1 Theory Papers: 

 Each paper will be of 100 marks (75 marks for theory exam and 25 marks for internal assessment) and duration of each paper will be 3 hours. In each theory paper, nine questions are to be set.  Two questions are to set from each Unit and candidate is required to attempt at least one question from each unit. Question number nine will be compulsory, which will be of short answer type with 5-10 parts, out of the entire syllabus. In all, five questions are to be attempted.

 2.3.6.2 Practical Examination:

Max. Marks: 100 (50 marks for practical and 50 marks for internal assessment).

Duration:  3 hours.

Conduct: Practical exam will be conducted by the external examiner from the panel proposed by the Chairman, Department of Computer Science, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and duly approved by the concerned authorities of the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.

Project Work: 

In 3rd year (sixth semester) the student has to develop one project, which will be evaluated by the external examiner from the panel submitted by Chairman, Department of Computer Science, Himachal Pradesh University, and duly approved by the university authority/evaluation branch, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla on the following basis:

 System Development Project

  1. System Design                                     100 Marks
  2. Log Book and Interim Report                 100 Marks
  3. Seminars (2)                                        100 Marks
  4. Project Report (4 Copies)                      200 Marks
  5. Viva-Voce                                            100 Marks
     Total                                                  600 Marks

In respect of theory papers 25 marks in each paper shall be reserved for award of internal assessment based on such work as assignments/practical/periodical tests/quiz etc.  In respect of practical papers, 50 marks shall be reserved for internal assessment in similar manner. 

The marks awarded by the teacher on account of internal assessment in relation to theory/practical paper as mentioned above shall be submitted to the office of Chairman. In sixth semester, the Chairman/Head of the Department will assign a guide/supervisor, to each candidate for his/her project work. The candidate shall be required to maintain his/her Department of Computer Science, H.P. University, Shimla project diary (logbook) of work in the organization. Each student will be required to give at least two seminars on his/her project work. Each student is required to submit three copies of his/her project reports in the Department after completion of the project work which will be evaluated by external examiner.
